These premium firmer gouges are made by Narex in the Czech Republic. The blades are made from fine-grained, nicely tempered chrome-manganese steel and hardened to 59 HRc. The blades take and hold an excellent edge. The blades taper in width which improves penetration into wood. Blades have a black coating to resist wear and corrosion. The back bevels are ground at a 25 degree angle. Handles are waxed European Hornbeam. Blades have well-seated heavy steel tangs and solid brass ferrules to withstand vigorous mallet work.
